FEATURED ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
PAULY KARCZ OF SPIRAL TRANCE
by Tina Peek

BAND NAME: SPIRAL TRANCE

WEBSITE: www.spiraltrance.com

MYSPACE SITE: www.myspace.com/spiraltrance

NAME: Pauly

BIRTH PLACE/HOMETOWN: Milwaukee, Wisconsin

MUSIC LIKES: I’m a fan of everything besides rap. As long as it’s got good feel and some emotion, I can dig it.

WORST HABIT: Cracking my knuckles

BEST TRAIT/QUALITY: I’d like to say I’m a pretty nice guy and easygoing. Sometimes too nice, and that has gotten me into trouble!

PET PEEVE: Bad spelling!

FAVORITE VACATION SPOT: Wisconsin Dells

PETS: My dog Maury. He’s a 9 pound Japanese Chin…

WORST FEAR: Spiders

FAVORITE BEVERAGE: Chocolate Malts and Guinness Beer. (Not mixed together however!)

BEST TOUR STORY: Our first road trip EVER which took us to Detroit. We had such high expectations and were so naïve! Played in one of the worst parts of town (actually ALL of Detroit is bad! LOL!!!) and in a shithole club. At the end of the night they actually gave us each a dollar for a grand total of 4 bucks. On top of that, they gave us a “blank” tape of our performance and a warm six pack of Meister Brau beer. We never drank it but have carried it with us ever since. It’s currently in our rehearsal studio as a reminder of “things can always be worse!”

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPERPOWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE: X-Ray Vision of course!!! Lots of “fancy” sights from the stage…

YOU'RE 15 YEARS OLD AND MAKING A CD FOR YOUR GIRLFRIEND, NAME THREE SONGS YOU WOULD PUT ON THE CD: So let’s see… Metallica – Fade To Black, Guns ‘n Roses – Sweet Child ‘O Mine, Ozzy – Good Bye To Romance. And a fourth: Slayer – Angel Of Death (just to see if they can hang!)

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE CARTOON AS A CHILD: Speed Racer

DO YOU HAVE ANY TATTOOS AND/OR PIERCINGS: I have two, one on each arm. My left arm is a personal design that I got when I went to Texas to visit my older brother. Originally the design was a piece of sterling silver jewellery I had made for my leather jacket. I lost it somewhere and missed having it, so now it’s permanent! My right arm is another personal spiral shaded type of design with a tribal question mark in the middle. It has the words “From Spirit To Flesh…” inked underneath it. I got that on sunset strip in Hollywood when we showcased at the Whisky A Go Go. To me it means you can make anything you can dream become a reality.

WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE OF YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY:  “Really? Why Are You Reading This?”

SPOTLIGHT STORY:  I grew up in a small suburb of Milwaukee called Hales Corners. I’m the second youngest of 4 other siblings so our house was pretty busy all the time. Growing up, my older brother had built a fort in our backyard all through his middle and high school years and by the time he graduated it was a small two story mansion!!! Needless to say, there were always loud parties going on down there and a lot of killer tunes being blasted from the stereo. Although I was 10 years younger, (and not ever invited) that music always led me to hang out down there and find out what it was all about. I got turned on to Ozzy and Black Sabbath, Kiss, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and countless others at a young age. I knew back then that I HAD to play in a band and wanted to make music somehow. Time went on, the fort was eventually demolished by orders of the city, and I inherited my brother’s record collection when he went off to school. I found other heavier sounds along the way through bands like Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, Megadeth, Anthrax and a long list of others. Now I was in high school forming my first band with a “borrowed” guitar from the local music store and some friends who thought we were the baddest shit in the world. “Bad” and “Shit” are the key words here because we sucked ass! Regardless, I forged on through other “awesome” bands until I found that I really needed some down time. I had to find some better musicians and do what I wanted to do for once instead of joining other bands and doing what they were already doing. That’s when I formed Spiral Trance and that has led me to where we are now. Feeling good, touring the country and wrecking one stage at a time! I suppose my story isn’t as different as a lot of other dudes starting out, but it’s mine and I’ve got the scars to prove it! Seriously, we’ve had many successes and failures which we’ve learned from, and we can’t be more thankful for how far we’ve come since the beginning. Success is what you make of it and pushing what you’ve got. We’ve always confided in each other as a band and maintained our integrity as musicians. We don’t know any other way. For us, opportunity and success is as endless as the horizon is infinite…Horns Up and Hellz Yes to y’all…
